

"In The Garden" recipes with Charlie Nardozzi
FOR ANTS Mix together 3 cups of water with 1 cup of sugar and 4 teaspoons of boric acid or borax. Into 3 - 6 small screw top jars, pour 1 cup of the bait solution per jar. Loosely pack cotton wool to half the depth of the container, then saturate with bait solution. Put lids on tightly, securing them with adhesive tape. Pierce the center of the lid with 2 - 3 small holes. Baited solution should be kept away from youngsters and pets.
FOR CREEPING CHARLIE Dissolve 8 ounces of 20 Mule team borax into 4 ounces of warm water. Then dilute it in 2 ½ gallons of water and spray on 1000 square feet of lawn. No more, no less! Best spraying time is in late May or early June.
FOR BLACK SPOT DISEASE OF ROSES Combine 3 teaspoons of Arm & Hammer baking soda and 2 ½ tablespoons of horticultural oil into 1 gallon of water. Spray before the disease gets started as a preventative.
FOR POWDERY MILDEW ON SQUASH, CUCUMBERS, ROSES, PHLOX Spray any type of milk (skim or whole) weekly on the leaves to prevent powdery mildew diseases. Make a 10% milk solution (1 part milk to 9 parts water) to reduce the disease by 90%.
FOR APHIDS AND ANIMALS Blend together 2 cloves of garlic and 1 tablespoon of hot chili peppers in a quart of water. Add a dash of liquid soap. After blending, strain the mixture through a cheesecloth and spray on any plants that aphids or animals love to eat. Repeat after rain.
